BIG FISH

Eric Gutman and Christine Hope have a meet-cute in this show that has so much chemistry that it feels like they are not acting, but living the characters. Christine Hope, is a Chicago native making her debut at HRT in Big Fish. Her portrayal of the southern beauty mixed with the charm of Eric Gutman is a love story even a pessimistic skeptic could get behind. Between her beautiful performance of I Don't Need a Roof to their duet of Time Stops there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

... I was simply enchanted by the depth of the performance.

The audience’s sympathy lies more prominently with the characters around him: Michael G. Floriano’s Will Bloom is warm and played with heart, as is Christine Hope’s Sandra Bloom, Will’s mother and the unfailingly loyal love of Edward’s life...

The singing from the leads is strong and many of the songs memorable, particularly the big opening and closing “Be the Hero” as well as Floriano’s sentimental “Stranger” and Hope’s love song “I Don’t Need a Roof”.

...by the end of the show it’s impossible not to be moved by this remarkable story. Tall tales and self mythologizing or not, the beautiful, grand truth of love and human experience shine through in the bright spots.

8 TRACK:  THE SOUNDS OF THE 70'S

Christine Hope's "I Am Woman" displays powerful presence and she brings sultry strength to Melissa Manchester's "Don't Cry Out Loud."

Standout solos are Hope's "Don't Cry Out Loud"...

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM, THE NEARLY TRUE STORY OF THE MAMAS AND THE PAPAS

Fine directing and acting are married to produce some real character studies… Christine Hope is magnetic, sweet and earthy as Michelle Phillips.

From the moment the lights came up, it was hard not to fall in love with Christine Hope.

Kyle Harris, who plays Denny Doherty, was perfectly cast opposite Christine Hope as Michelle Phillips. They have terrific voices and a very appealing stage presence.  I really felt the connection between the two actors as they portrayed two members of the band who eventually fall for each other.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (Recording)

Sweet-voiced Christine Hope brings thoughtful phrasing to the role of Hodel, and "Far From the Home I Love" includes some nicely dramatic dialogue for her and Tevye from Joseph Stein's book.

CLOSER THAN EVER

With a wisdom far beyond her years, Christine Hope delivers a heart-breaking rendition of Life Story...

THE SOUND OF MUSIC

As Elsa, the wealthy rival for Captain Von Trapp's affections, Christine Hope hisses and purrs with refreshing cynicism, and her performance of How Can Love Survive? is a bumptuous delight in the midst of the sometimes saccharine score.

CAROUSEL

Christine Hope shines as zesty Carrie Pipperidge.  She has a lovely voice and her character is both feisty and amusing... her songs and scenes offer comic relief, yet she is utterly believable.

WHOOP DEE DOO

That leads to the show's highlight, an extended Streisand impersonation, masterfully performed by Christine Hope.

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS

... But not one of them can outshine Christine Hope as Princess Winnifred The Woebegone.  She is in a class of her own and does the role proud.  She is a true comedic actress who is always funny and in good voice,  Hope knows how to command the stage:  Whether she's swimming the moat or thrashing about on a 10-foot mattress, she's got us under her spell.
